The difference between psyche and soul

By psyche I understand the totality of all psychic processes, conscious as well as unconscious.

“I have been compelled, in my investigations into the structure of the unconscious, to make a conceptual distinction between soul and psyche.

By psyche I understand the totality of all psychic processes, conscious as well as unconscious.

By soul, on the other hand, I understand a clearly demarcated functional complex that can best be described as a “personality.”

In order to make clear what I mean by this, I must introduce some further points of view. It is, in particular, the phenomena of somnambulism, double consciousness, split personality, etc., whose investigation we owe primarily to the French school, that have enabled us to accept the possibility of a plurality of personalities in one and the same individual. ”
